About the Event

In line with the Government’s key plans and strategic initiatives to build and support a sustainable national economy, UAE approved amendments to the provisions of Commercial Transactions Law effective 2nd January 2022.

This workshop will highlight the changes made to the Commercial Transactions Law including decriminalization of bounced cheques and the debt collection mechanisms available in and out of the court system.

Rita Al Semaani Jansen

Partner Ince

Rita is highly experienced in advising clients on transactional, corporate and commercial law across a variety of sectors and has a keen interest in renewable energy, construction and projects. Her practice spans across a broad range of areas, including national and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructuring, franchising and financing. She regularly advises clients on all aspects of UAE laws, including free zones, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, breaches of confidentiality, white-collar crime, cross-border fraud, cyber-policies and cybercrime. In addition to Rita’s transactional work, her experience also extends to advising clients on contentious matters relating to a range of industries but specifically major projects.

Monika Humphreys-Davies

Attorney Ince

Monika advises clients in the Middle East and overseas operating in the shipping, international trade and energy sectors. Her clients benefit from her experience of both contentious and non-contentious matters, which adds further commercial acumen to the advice that she provides. Monika assists clients with their commercial disputes in both the English High Court and the UAE Courts, as well as different arbitration centres. She also regularly advises shipowners and charterers on charterparties, bills of lading and various other shipping and offshore related contracts, together with vessel sale and purchase agreements.
